What is a Place ID?
A Place ID is a unique code Google uses to identify a place in Google Maps: a business, a building, a landmark or an address. It usually starts with ChIJ followed by letters, numbers, dashes and underscores. Developers use it with the Google Maps Platform, and businesses use it to create direct review links.
What you can do with a Place ID
| Use | Link built from the Place ID |
|---|---|

| Open the place in Google Maps | https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:PLACE_ID |
| Developer APIs | Place Details, Reviews (with an API key) |

How to use the Place ID finder
- Type the business name and town (or an address).
- Choose the right result. Check the address, especially for chains with several locations.
- Copy the Place ID, or copy the ready-made review or Maps link.
Other ways to find a Place ID
- Google's own Place ID Finder in the Google Maps Platform documentation shows the ID when you click a place on its map.
- Developers can request it from the Places API (Text Search or Autocomplete).
- Your Business Profile review link (from Read reviews → Get more reviews) uses a short
g.pageaddress instead of the Place ID, but opens the same review form.
Common questions
Does a Place ID ever change?
It can. Google recommends refreshing stored Place IDs from time to time, for example if a place moves or listings are merged. If an old review link stops working, look the ID up again.
Why does my business have two Place IDs?
There may be a duplicate listing. Search on Google Maps; if you find a duplicate of your own business, report it or merge it through Google Business Profile support.
Is a Place ID the same as a CID?
No. The CID is a different numeric identifier that appears in some Google Maps URLs. Review links use the Place ID.
